In Loving Memory of James Morien

The Villages – James “Jim” P. Morien, 89, passed away on Wednesday, September 4, 2019. He was born in New London, WI and graduated from New London High School. Prior to graduation, he was an accomplished athlete, having run track at State, as well as playing baseball, basketball and football. Jim married Joan Laflin then enlisted in the military where he worked as a mechanic instructor in Sheppard Air Force Base in Texas. After discharge, they returned to New London and raised four children. Jim worked as a master painter/carpenter with his brother William “Bill” Morien and later ran his own furniture restoration business.

Jim was a loving father and husband, and cherished time with his family. Yearly family reunions were a highlight, as well as individual trips to see his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Jim enjoyed traveling. He took a number of trips across the USA with Joan, as well as Canada, Ireland, and England. In addition, he and Joan spent many winters in Alabama as “snow birds” where they enjoyed the beach and warm weather.

His favorite hobbies included painting, and playing tennis and golf. Jim was an extremely talented and prolific artist and produced beautiful paintings and drawings.

The last three years of Jim’s life were spent at Sumter Grand in The Villages, Florida. Some of his fondest memories are attending ball games, concerts, golfing, and dinners with his friends and family.

Jim is preceded in death by Joan, his wife of 53 years, his sister Phyllis Leitschuh and his parents Philip and Clara Morien.

He is survived by his four children, Debra LeRoy (Randy), Mark Morien (Sharon), Gary Morien (Karen), and Ann Morien (James), his brother Bill Morien.
